COVID-19 Response

Remotely Treating Suicidal patients using CAMS and Telepsychology

CAMS-care Response

Our goal is to provide you resources to help you to treat your suicidal patients at a time when social distancing is absolutely needed to flatten the curve of the spread of this novel coronavirus.

If you’re trained in CAMS, you’re in a unique position to use this evidence-based treatment within remote virtual sessions with your suicidal patients.

We understand that responding to the historic pandemic is a top priority of our healthcare systems right now and likely for many months to come. To this end, we want to be mindful of the needs of suicidal patients who will continue to struggle. We aim to provide you with some resources and solutions at a time when those suffering should clearly avoid ED and hospital visits if at all possible while still receiving evidence-based suicide-focused care.

CAMS and Telepsychology

We have received a lot of questions from clinicians in recent days about how they can continue to treat suicidal patients using telepsychology. The Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) has been successfully administered remotely in a variety of settings including the U.S. Army within the Warrior Resiliency Program. CAMS is currently being used in telepsychology in the frontier regions of the inter-mountain West, prison settings and in an on-going randomized controlled trial (RCT) at the San Diego Veterans Affairs Medical Center with suicidal veterans.
